Quick stop Vittskövle

From the car window, we spotted yellow lichens on the walls by the moat (vallgrav) at Vittskövle slott (castle). My father had to park the car for us to be able to look closer. By now, he is used to us shouting "Yellow!!!" from the back seat and knows he has to stop the car…

It was not possible to check the lichens that you can see on the enclosed photo, however we could have a closer look at a couple of thalli on the bridge crossing the moat. We determined them to Xanthoria calcicola. The rest of the population was for obvious reasons not examined. Arup et al. (1997) did not report X. calcicola from Vittskövle and Vittskövle castle is not listed in their visited localities. Thus, we concern this a new find/ locality with a relatively large population of X. calcicola.
