Job interview

I vaguely remember writing about my applying for two positions here in Bergen (BIO, UiB). Yesterday, got the message that I am called to an interview (Tuesday at 10 o'clock) for the position as lab manager for the new Biodiversity facility! Jihao!!!

Här är en bild av Degelia-arten H och jag håller på att beskriva ny för vetenskapen. På bilden växer den tillsammans med D. plumbea blylav, blylaven till vänster. Jag kommer ihåg första gången jag såg blylav. Det var i Småland, Annerstads socken, på 1990-talet.

Idag är det tomt här, nästan alla är på invigningen av Japanhagen på Milde.

It's that time of the year again

1) The Norwegian national Day: "17:e Mai" was on Sturday. NICE! Best weather since we came to Bergen in 2000.

2) The time to write up the application for the Norwegian Research Council... I have to gather the strength!

A good book: The Emerald Planet by David Beerling!

Today, I found a copy of Strasburger's Textbook of Botany in the shelf of the "BIO book exchange" - a true classic!!! It will become very very useful for the rest of my life, I'm certain!

Vi hade pingst

...och jag har inte ens jobbat i tre dagar, men är redan klar för helg... Varför? Och på lördag är det 17 mai, och jag/vi måste hinna pynta, städa, stryka kläder, blablabla. Jag vill också ha städhjälp!

Poster

The poster I have started to make for the IAL symposium in California this summer is titled Xanthomendoza borealis - a bipolar lichen species. We are two authors and B, our terrific illustrator, is helping me out. I really look forward to seeing it finished. My goal is: "en enkel (men utseendemässigt häftig!) poster, med lite text och ett enkelt budskap" ("a simple, but cool, poster with a small amount of text and a simple message"). I enjoyed reading this homepage.

People are writing about regrets and in the Que sera sera blog, mark Twain was cited (I don't know if it is correct): Twenty years from now, you’ll regret the things you didn’t do, rather than the things you did.”. Examples of things one could do. Hmmm, there is no time to waste, I must construct my own list(s)!

Bokkväll med ost och allsång

Det var mysigt igår på Norsk-Svensk förening i Bergen (hemsidan funkar inte så bra). Vi var 11 stycken. Det var roligt att byta böcker. Är det typiskt svenskt att tycka att det är mysigt och skoj att sjunga ihop? Norrmännen tycker oftast bara att det är pinsamt... Torbjörn W spelade jättefint på gitarren.

Vintern rasat ut (Längtan till landet), Vårvindar friska (som egentligen heter Den stackars Anna eller Molltoner från Norrland – det visste ingen av oss. Nothing is straightforward

IAL6: In the second circular on the homepage, instructions for posters say:

"Maximal dimensions of usable space on the poster boards will be 7’9’ x 3’9” (ca. 230 x 110 cm), with the long dimension being the width."

1. When I convert inches to centimeters: the result is 200.66 cm (7.9 inches) x 99.06 cm (3.9 inches). Which measurement is correct?

2. This would mean that the board is 2 metres wide and one metre high. Is this correct? I need to know for sure, because it seems like a very unusual size for a poster board.
