Waters of March

I went to the party for the official opening of the new "Norwegian Centre of Excellence " Centre of Geobiology. It was at Galleri Nygaten, pretty cool. Good luck to them! the invitation said tapas to eat, but it was mostly pasta salads, salad, olives and some seafood soups; tasted good though. A glass of champagne, and two glasses of wine. A cup of coffeee and a chocolate cake. Quite nice. My aim was to show up and to be nice. Accomplished! Took the bus home at 22.30. H had to leave at 6.30 this morning for a meeting in Trondheim... But the weather is wonderful, so I guess that the flight went fine.

An apotheium equals an onion

I am cutting off apothecia from lichen collections to use for DNA extraction. It strikes me; to write that I have used "one apothecium" is comparable to recipies for cooking that says "one onion". They come in so many sizes!

In-between-contracts

An interesting fact: your former employer is very quickly removing you from the internet pages when your contract ends, while your new employer is very slow to incorporate you...

I hope that it happens, because they think that you don't care about "being there" or not!

Inferring Demographic History

I struggled with running analyses of the total data set of Xanthoria parietina using software Beast (& Beauti!) for one whole year. Then I gave up. It was surely a wise decision. The data set is too small (14 populations, 2 markers), at least for the analysis tools currently available

Through the evolgen blog, I was referred to Drummond's own blog today. this is very interesting, and I will follow the development eagerly.
